The recently refurbished Churchstoke Shopping Centre on the Welsh border is home to the Midcounties Cooperative supermarket. The management team asked The Fun Experts to help them create a magical experience in store with the aim to encourage more visitors during the Christmas season and give Santa a cosy home for the holidays!
As a company, the Coop have always had people at it’s heart - and the store’s Management Team were keen to engage closely with the local community over the Christmas period. The new-look shopping centre was completely transformed in Spring 2017 in a substantial makeover project of the former site. Therefore the management team at the Coop wanted to do something extra special for visitors to the store by putting on their best-ever festive experience and inviting Santa to come and stay!
The purpose of their in-store Christmas event was to drive footfall, particularly families, into Churchstoke Shopping Centre. But they needed somewhere for him and his entourage to call home in the store over December. It had to be special enough for him to really feel at home - so only an authentic Wooden Grotto would do!
The team found The Fun Experts after researching online for the long-term hire of a Wooden Grotto over the busy festive shopping period. They did a lot of research and had range of quotes from several companies, but chose The Fun Experts because their price was competitive (though not the cheapest) - but most importantly for them, had the quality they were looking for!

The extra-special Wooden Grotto was set up by the The Fun Experts team, sporting its own picket-fence, welcome mat and snowy area with special Christmas Props, including a Snowman and Reindeer, all designed to welcome guests to Santa’s Christmas home.
Inside the Wooden Grotto, Santa’s Elaborate Wooden Throne was placed by a cosy hearth and fireplace, so that he could enjoy pictures of his family and his very own decorated Christmas tree to place all the children’s gifts beneath.
To add a little bit more excitement to the Christmas spectacle - a traditional Christmas Hoopla Side Stall was also added to the package so that people could entertain themselves with a game of Hoopla whilst waiting their turn to divulge to Santa all their Christmas wishes.
The team at Midcounties Cooperative was extremely pleased with the whole effect and felt that it really ‘looked the part’ in store. They also felt that the Hoopla stand added extra interest and drama!
