A Day in the Life of a Fun Expert!

As a new face at The Fun Experts, I've been getting to know members of the team, and seeing what a huge impact the Events Team have on our clients at their events and what an integral part of your day they really are, so this week I thought that it would be a good idea to get a bit of insight into what it's actually like to be a Fun Expert on an event day! I've sat down with seasoned Fun Expert Peter and got him to dish the dirt on exactly what it's like to be part of the team and what a typical day at work looks like.

Hiya, my name's Mia and since I'm new to the team I wanted to find out a bit about your typical day as a Fun Expert. Before we get into it, could you tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do?

Hello, I'm Peter and I've been working for The Fun Experts as a member of the Events Team since 2015 and I'm super passionate about my work here as well as my profession in Theatre. My time is mostly spent either running my own company, 'Just Some Theatre' or providing fun for The Fun Experts so it's safe to say I'm pretty busy! You might also recognise my face from either Iceland or Sky's television adverts...

First things first, how does a typical event day begin for you?

"Before I set off for an event, the most important thing is to come to work prepared. This means arriving to my shift on time as all our events are planned to schedule well in advance by the Logistics Team and also being clued up on my event overview which basically has all the details we need for the day ahead."

You mentioned being prepared, so what are your 'must-haves' that you always pack for an event?

"I always have a full uniform so that I'm easily recognisable by clients with our iconic winking face logo, something to eat and drink to power me through the day, a phone charger especially on longer journeys, and just in case the sun's out, can't forget sun lotion!"

How do you find working with your fellow Fun Experts?

"I love working with the rest of Events Team because we're all a big family and really get stuck in throughout the day. I always find it a good idea to allocate jobs to particular people to ensure every base is covered but we're always happy to help each other out where we need to."

How much time do you usually spend travelling each day?

"It depends on the day, The Fun Experts deliver all across the country so sometimes it could be just up the road and others we'll have to stay over night, like, if the event is a long drive away and we have an early start or late finish. "

When you arrive at an event, what's the key to setting it up smoothly and successfully?

"Firstly it's really important to get to know your client and build a good relationship with them so that they trust you with the job...we are the experts! When it comes to setting up equipment, I always make sure to walk through our access to make sure the space is suitable. So I'll check there's enough room, if there's any hazards and where the fire exits are if the event's indoors."

What is your favourite thing about going to an event?

"I think the best bit for me is when I get to take part in events. It's so good seeing everyone's hard work pay off when the guests are really enjoying themselves because a lot of the time it's not just the equipment that makes an event, it's the people there that make it really memorable."

Which piece of kit do you most enjoy using?

"I'd have to go with the Rodeo Bull, it's very entertaining to watch everyone else trying to stay on and I'd say I've gotten pretty good at it myself!"

What happens when an event is over?

"When all the fun is done, we still have work to do like packing and unloading when we arrive back at the base and that includes completing the Event Feedback. This is how we let the rest of the team know whether the event went well and whether the equipment needs any maintenance before it's sent out for another weekend of fun. After that I get to head home and relax before we do it all again!"
